Question 1

What is a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress is a natural latex hybrid mattress made with organic and natural materials instead of polyurethane foam. Each model layers organic cotton, natural wool, and organic latex over individually wrapped steel coils. Birch is a sister brand to Helix Sleep and builds its whole lineup around certified natural materials.

Question 2

What materials are in a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress is built from organic cotton in the cover, natural wool for cushioning and breathability, organic latex for pressure relief, and individually wrapped steel coils for support. Birch states that its mattresses contain no polyurethane-based foams. The materials carry certifications including GOLS for the organic latex, Greenguard Gold, and Fair Trade USA.

Question 3

How firm is a Birch mattress?

Accepted Answer

Firmness on a Birch mattress varies by model, and the lineup generally spans medium-soft to medium-firm. The original Birch Natural is medium-firm, which tends to suit back and stomach sleepers, while the plusher models add cushioning that side sleepers often prefer. Latex has a buoyant, responsive feel, so it can read firmer than memory foam at the same rating.

Question 4

Is a Birch mattress good for hot sleepers?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress is generally a good fit for hot sleepers, because wool, latex, and a coil support layer all move heat and moisture away from the surface. Wool helps regulate temperature, and the open structure of latex traps less heat than dense memory foam. Airflow through the coil unit adds to the effect.

Question 5

What is the difference between Birch Natural and Birch Luxe Natural?

Accepted Answer

Birch Luxe Natural is a taller, plusher version of the standard Birch mattress, with additional natural comfort layers and a softer overall feel. Birch Natural is medium-firm, while Luxe Natural sits closer to medium. Both use the same natural material set of organic cotton, wool, organic latex, and wrapped coils.

Question 6

How long does a Birch mattress last?

Accepted Answer

A Birch mattress typically lasts around ten years or more, since natural latex and wrapped coils tend to hold their shape longer than polyurethane foam. Rotating it head to foot a few times a year helps it wear evenly. A solid or closely slatted foundation also keeps the coil layer properly supported.
